Where is the best place to go fishing in Costa Rica?
The Pacific coast offers the best sportfishing. Los Sueños and Quepos are top picks for billfish, Jacó has the widest range of boats, Guanacaste (Flamingo, Tamarindo and Playa del Coco) suits northern beach vacations, and Golfito is ideal for dedicated anglers. Compare all locations.
What is the best time of year to fish in Costa Rica?
You can fish all year. Sailfish usually peak from December to April, while marlin, tuna and mahi-mahi are strong in the green season. Roosterfish and snapper are caught inshore year-round.
How much does a fishing charter cost?
It depends on the boat size, trip length and location. Send us your date and group size and we’ll reply with available boats and a full quote — no payment needed to ask.
Should I book a half day or a full day?
A half day is great for inshore fishing and families. Choose a full day when sailfish, marlin or tuna are the goal, so the crew has time to reach the best offshore water.
Are the charters private?
Yes. Every charter we book is private — the boat and crew are reserved just for your group.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Every angler on board needs a Costa Rica fishing license, which you can buy online before your trip. We’ll explain how when we confirm your boat.
How much should I tip the crew?
Tipping is not required but is customary when the crew does a great job. Many anglers tip around 10–20% of the charter, shared between the captain and mate.
