Playa Flamingo is one of Guanacaste’s best-known fishing ports. From the modern Marina Flamingo, boats can reach deep Pacific water for blue marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna and mahi-mahi — black and striped marlin show up here too.
Closer in, the rocky reefs and the Catalina Islands hold roosterfish, cubera snapper, amberjack, jack crevalle, grouper and sierra mackerel — great on live bait and light tackle.
It’s an easy departure if you’re staying in Flamingo, Potrero, Conchal, Las Catalinas or Tamarindo.

Questions before you book
Where do Flamingo fishing charters depart from?
Charters leave from Marina Flamingo in Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste. It’s a short drive from Potrero, Conchal, Las Catalinas and Tamarindo. We confirm the dock and time when you book.
When is the best time to fish in Flamingo?
Sailfish are strongest from December through April, and marlin fishing peaks from May through October. Roosterfish, snapper and yellowfin tuna are available year-round.
Should I book a half day or a full day?
Book a half day for inshore fishing around the reefs and Catalina Islands. Choose a full day when marlin, sailfish or tuna are the priority, so the crew has time to reach the best offshore water.
Which boat is best for my group?
El Gato III suits up to 4 anglers who want a hands-on day. La Luna and Summer Salt take up to 8 and add air-conditioned cabins and private bathrooms for more comfort offshore.
Does the wind affect fishing in Flamingo?
From January to March the Papagayo winds can be strong. Captains often leave early or fish protected inshore areas, so you can still have a great day.
Are the charters private?
Yes. Every boat on this page is a private charter — the boat and crew are reserved just for your group.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. Every angler on board needs a Costa Rica fishing license, which you can buy online before your trip. We’ll explain how when we confirm your boat.
